Welcome to Lanzarote, where volcanoes have carved the landscape into something truly captivating and unique. This is a place where you’ll find vast lava fields, over 300 volcanic cones as well as lush valleys of palms and wildlife. No wonder Lanzarote has been a designated UNESCO Geopark since 2015. It’s part of the Canary Islands, off the coast of Spain, meaning a sun-soaked climate, delicious cuisine and, yes, plenty of beaches! On Canary Islands cruises, take your pick between golden and black sand beaches. If you’re feeling energetic, try your hand at surfing on Famara Beach, famed for its wind and waves. Lanzarote also has a distinct arts and culture scene: visit a museum with a twist at the Museo Atlántico, which is fully underwater. Despite its popularity, there are parts of Lanzarote which still feel wild and undiscovered. Take, for instance, Timanfaya National Park in the southwest of the island. Volcanoes erupted here over 300 years ago, yet the results remain everywhere in this eerie mountainous landscape. After an afternoon of hiking, why not treat yourself to some wine tasting? The La Geria wine region is famous for its production of the Malvasia grape. A rich and full-bodied wine is the perfect thing to sip on as you watch the sun set over the island of Lanzarote.
